End of Season 2023

Parkview Neighbourhood Garden concluded yet another successful season. Thanks to our 40+ volunteers of all ages, we grew enough this year to directly donate 470 lbs of food to neighbourhood food charities, and offer a wide variety of produce to our volunteers and neighbours. Our volunteers and neighbours were extremely generous with donations to the garden and because of them, we have enough funds to purchase seeds, seedlings and soil amendments for next season.

We grew a whopping 40 types of produce this year:

  • Food Hedges: Grapes, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, blackberries, currants
  • Herbs: Thyme, Basil, Parsley, Cilantro, Sage, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Oregano, Lavender
  • Vegetables: Squash, Tomatoes, Tomatillos, Okra, Eggplant, Leeks, Green Onions, Garlic, Peppers, Broccoli, Kohlrabi, Swiss Chard, Kale, Cabbage, Rutabaga, Carrots, Celery, Beets, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Radish, Lettuce, Spinach, Arugula, Sorrel

Our flowers were especially prolific this year and attracted many human and insect visitors: Sunflowers, Nasturtiums, Marigolds, Calendula, Zinnia plus all the additional flowers in the front pollinator garden.

Overall the weather was nice and sunny, but we had periods of drought when our watering team kept the garden going, and less heat that left some of the tomatoes green, and gloomy weather in October for cleanup. Through it all, our volunteers and neighbours kept us going with their enthusiasm and words of encouragement.

Thank you everyone, and see you next April!
